3 Reasons Why You Should Never Wear Your Makeup to the Gym

It can be hard to fit a trip to the gym into your busy schedule. In an effort to save time, you might be tempted to skip a step and work out with a full face of makeup. After all, you will wash it away when you are done, right? Here are 3 reasons why you might want to rethink your decision about wearing that makeup into the gym.

Reason #1: Work Out, Don’t Break Out

When you work out, your skin will produce sweat, which can open up your pores. Makeup then clogs those pores and introduces unwanted bacteria, which may lead to acne and unnecessary breakouts.

Reason #2: Grow Muscles Not Pores

Over time, the continual habit of wearing makeup to the gym can lead to enlarged pores, making them more visible and susceptible to contaminants. So, while you may be working hard to grow your muscles, you may be growing your pores as well.

Reason #3: Let Your Skin Breathe

The sweat produced to cool your body is intended to evaporate. However, a layer of makeup will prevent this process by acting as a barrier. When this happens, your skin’s natural waste can get caught in between the layers in direct contact with your skin. Keeping your face clean and free of makeup allows your skin to breathe while you work out.

Taking simple steps like wiping off your makeup with on-the-go wipes, carrying around travel sized cleansers or makeup removers before you start your work out can help prevent negative outcomes on your skin.
